The M.A. in Writing Program continues the Fall 2023 Visiting Writers Series with author Davon Loeb on November 9.
The fall Writer's Symposium by the Sea series features up-and-coming authors brought to ¹ú²ú͵ÅÄ through the M.A. in Writing Program, which launched this past fall.
The second and final guest of the Fall 2023 series is Davon Loeb, an assistant features editor at The Rumpus and author of , which was published in February 2023 by West Virginia University Press. The lyrical memoir tells the story of the son of a Black mother and white Jewish father growing up in the predominantly white suburbs of New Jersey. A rich narrative in the tradition of Justin Torres’s We the Animals and Bryan Washington’s Memorial, Loeb’s memoir is relevant to the country’s current climate and is part of the necessary rewrite of the nation’s narrative and identity.
deems The In-Betweens an 'utterly captivating and resonant' must-read book: "Each vignette moves with power in every word, offering passing glimpses of a child learning about the world he finds himself in, a teenager searching for his way, and a man reflecting on his family roots and his passions."
Loeb will visit ¹ú²ú͵ÅÄ campus on Thursday, November 9 to conduct a 3pm writing workshop and 7pm evening reading at Fermanian Conference Center.
The 3pm workshop will focus on writing craft and will center on the work of M.A. in Writing students; all are welcome to observe the discussion for free.
The 7pm reading will feature Loeb's work and a book signing to follow courtesy of La Playa Books. Cost for the evening event is $10 general admission and $5 with the ¹ú²ú͵ÅÄ discount.
